Are You Truly Fit?

Fitness is the condition of being physically fit and healthy. Many people incorporate fitness into their daily lives, but they are missing some of the essential components. Just because you can bench press two times your body weight does not mean you are physically fit and, the same goes for if you can run a 5k in under 20 minutes.

Fitness is a combination of several different elements. Only once you consistently train and improve all areas are you truly fit.

In terms of health, there are five main components which include:

  • Muscular Strength is the amount of force you can exert or the amount of weight you can lift.
  • Muscular Endurance is your ability to use a muscle repetitively over a set period without tiring.
  • Cardiovascular Endurance is the capability of the heart, lungs, and blood to transport oxygen to your tissues during intense activity for a prolonged time.
  • Flexibility is the range of motion (ROM) in a joint or group of joints or the ability to move effectively through a complete ROM.
  • Body Composition refers to the percentage of bone, fat, and muscle in your body.
